Every drop counts

Thirst Foundation is a non-profit organisation that is focused on delivering groundbreaking action on water.

Established in 2012, Thirst is dedicated to increasing awareness, driving stakeholder urgency and delivering meaningful action on the resource that connects everyone – water.

We are an organising entity conceiving, planning and delivering the work of Mina Guli.

Our community-driven global campaigns seek to put water on the top of the global agenda.

Our large, inspirational, out-of-the-box campaigns work to build and mobilise a global ecosystem of stakeholders to cure water blindness, put water on top of the global agenda and work together to deliver bold, groundbreaking action on water. Simply, our mission is to close the gap on UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 – water and sanitation.

We have built a community of everyday water champions in more than 190 countries and territories.

Through our education activities we have also led programmes changing the importance of water for the next generation. We have worked with more than 2.1 million children through innovation competitions, hackathons and education modules.

  • Our Values

We have an unwavering commitment to closing the gap on SDG6 targets in spite of any challenges that arise along the way. ➔

  • We see strength in diversity and our community is for everyone. We believe that real, sustainable change requires ambitious goals and we are boldly optimistic that together we can take these giant leaps for change. ➔

  • Our community brings together individuals, communities, companies, investors, NGOs and policymakers under a shared purpose and passion for a resource that impacts each and every one of us. ➔

  • The complexity of the global water crisis means that we approach our work with an open, inquisitive and eager mindset to achieve our mission.

With an unwavering commitment to ensuring global action on water, Thirst believes in fostering a community for everyone.

Water has the power to both unite and divide, and together we share in the responsibility of ensuring a water-secure future for today and for generations to come.

We welcome all into our global community of water campaigners and invite everyone to join our free, virtual activations as we work together to change the world.

Moving the world on water

Thirst’s global campaigns for water action have spanned all seven continents, achieved billions in media impressions and include a growing community active in more than 190 countries and territories.

Our historical campaigns on water are featured below.

For information about our current campaign RUN BLUE please visit www.runblue.org.

  • 7 Desert Run

By 2030, global water demand will be 40% greater than supply. The 7 Desert Run (2016) saw Mina run the equivalent of 40 marathons on seven deserts over seven continents in seven weeks to raise awareness about the global water crisis.

  • 6 River Run

If water stops running, life stops working. The world’s future and our lives depend on having enough clean, safe water. The 6 River Run (2017) supported UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 targets and saw Mina run down six of the world’s great rivers on six continents, completing a distance of 40 marathons in 40 days.

  • #RunningDry

What started as a campaign to run 100 marathons in 100 days to demonstrate 100% commitment to water resulted in a true testament of people uniting to change the world. After Mina broke her leg on her 62nd consecutive marathon, people around the world rallied in support, completing the remaining marathons and showing a global commitment to action on water.
